About Me
Hi! I’m Grace King, and I’m so excited to be your child’s third grade teacher this year! This is my third year teaching third grade and my second year teaching in Atlanta after moving from Ohio. I graduated from the University of Dayton with a degree in education and am certified in gifted education as well as trained in the Orton-Gillingham approach for literacy instruction.
I’m passionate about creating a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. My goal is to build strong relationships with my students and help them grow both academically and socially. I love incorporating hands-on activities, meaningful discussions, and opportunities for creativity and critical thinking into our daily learning.
Outside of the classroom, you can usually find me at a Pilates class, browsing the aisles of Target, or enjoying a coffee from Starbucks (I love the refreshers!).
I’m so excited to partner with you this year and can’t wait for all the learning, growth, and memories ahead!
Our Classroom
In our classroom, we focus on building a strong sense of community, celebrating growth, and fostering a love of learning. I believe in maintaining high expectations while also meeting students where they are. Every child brings something valuable to our classroom, and I work hard to create an environment where all learners feel seen and successful.
Here are a few things that guide our classroom culture:
Respect and Responsibility: We treat each other with kindness, listen actively, and take care of our space and materials.
Student Leadership: Every student has genius and will have a leadership role in our classroom and plays an important part in our daily routine.
Positive Behavior Support: We follow PBIS schoolwide expectations, and students are encouraged to reflect on their choices and grow through challenges.
Growth Mindset: Mistakes are welcome here! We celebrate effort, perseverance, and learning from setbacks.
What to Expect This Year
Our days are filled with exciting lessons, interactive activities, and meaningful learning experiences. Here’s a snapshot of what your child can expect in third grade:
Morning Routine with Leader in Me: Students start each day with a calm, consistent routine to help them transition into the school day. As part of our Leader in Me program, students are greeted warmly at the door and have opportunities to practice leadership by completing their classroom jobs, preparing materials, and reflecting on their personal goals. Morning work activities are independent and purposeful, giving students a peaceful start while reinforcing key skills. We also hold brief morning meetings where we review daily plans, set intentions, and build a strong sense of classroom community.
ELA & Social Studies: We’ll dive into reading comprehension, writing, grammar, and vocabulary, while also exploring communities, geography, government, and history in social studies. Lessons are differentiated to support all learners.
Small Groups & Centers: Your child will engage in small group instruction, literacy centers, and collaborative tasks designed to meet their individual needs.
Technology Integration: We use tools like digital games, interactive notebooks, and online platforms to enhance our instruction and keep learning fun.
Celebrations & Milestones: Whether it’s meeting a reading goal, mastering a new skill, or showing kindness, we take time to celebrate big and small wins.
